Disease Spread
WNV symptoms commonly found in human beings on account of the infectious mosquito bite. The contract for mosquito infection among birds that are infected by this virus. It is not contagious by nature. It can be transmitted from person to person by kissing, touching or caring for infected patients.
Symptoms of West Nile virus
Usually the virus does not leave any symptoms. But in some locations of West Nile Virus symptoms include fever, body aches and headaches. In some regions of the West Nile virus symptoms include rash and lymph nodes. For older people the virus causes severe damage to brain tissue. In severe cases, the virus can cause permanent neurological damage as well. The symptoms of encephalitis are muscle weakness, coma (unconsciousness), confusion, stiff neck, high fever and headache. Death can occur in rare cases instantly.
Mosquito bites do not always become infected with WNV. In cities like New York, the mosquito-related diseases are very rare. But if you develop symptoms of West Nile virus as confusion, muscle aches, headache, muscle weakness, eyes becoming sensitive to light and high fever, consult a doctor. Patients with mild symptoms should not worry if they recover completely soon. There is no need for laboratory tests or specific medications in such scenarios.
Disease Treatment
The disease does not require specific treatment. Treatment includes intravenous fluids and nutrition, airway management, airway management and good nursing care. Treatment of secondary infection is also given if the patient requires.
The time taken for infection to start is usually 5-15 days.
Less than 1% of lot infected develop encephalitis and get hospitalized. In a case from 1000, the disease proved fatal.
There is no vaccination for West Nile Virus.
People are concerned about the nature of the virus spreading. According to reliable research, the disease is not contagious because the infection is not transmitted by kissing or touching. The guardian of the patient can do his work quietly without worrying about the contagiousness of the disease.
