health costs

The leading cause of preventable illness and early death is caused by smoking, or better known as smoking. Cancer Research UK estimates that 114,000 people die each year from smoking-related diseases such as cancer. Smokers find it extremely difficult to quit smoking because of the highly addictive nature of nicotine in cigarettes.

What a waste of money

The cost of a single person smoking twenty cigarettes per day is 2.135 pounds per year and it does not take into account the income tax and national insurance you have paid the government of your salary. If these fees were included, then a twenty a day habit of smoking individuals alone will cost £ 2,669 per year. It cost a family holiday abroad, including pocket money. A couple of twenty cigarettes a day spend £ 5,338 a year including tax deductions on their salaries. It is £ 102.66 per week for a couple and £ 51.33 for a single smoker. What a waste of money!

Testimony

I stopped back in eighteen months, when my wife and I decided that thirty years was long enough and we decided to stop smoking together. We provided each other with support and encouragement. Prior to this momentous decision that we had tried and failed, but this time was different we wanted to give to health and financial reasons. We wanted to save money and we hope to live longer and healthier. Our three children wanted to stop this because they felt our smoke.

We went to a Tesco store pharmacy and asked to see their representative smoke-free NHS. The first thing they did was ask questions of health, then we were asked to blow into a machine which recorded carbon dioxide in the lungs. We had one week course of nicotine replacement patches to help us to resist cigarettes. It was difficult to pack, but we preserve and six weeks after we were arrested.

Eighteen months later, none of us smoked a single cigarette and yes I could smoke a cigarette every day but I know how difficult it is and will it took to give it up.

The best part of quitting was the money we are saving even if I must say that I never saw the money we save. We both feel healthier and our children do not feel like an old ashtray. If I can give it up then anyone can.
