For those who experience more severe symptoms of prescription drugs levels may provide relief that the most natural treatments can not match. Again, they only treat the symptoms that you know exists at this time. Four classes of drugs are currently used for the treatment of restless legs syndrome.

1. Dopaminergic - Used primarily to treat Parkinson's disease, they increase the level of dopamine in the brain.

2. Benzodiazepines - Works as a sedative on the central nervous system. Prescribed primarily to help people with RLS sleep all night.

3. Opiates - These drugs are used mainly to relieve pain and were considered effective in the treatment of restless legs syndrome.

4. Anticonvulsants - a class of drugs that work by suppressing sensory disturbances and severe muscle spasms.

The first step to finding a treatment of restless legs syndrome is a visit to a doctor. By getting the right diagnosis treatment regimens can be built more that treats individual symptoms. Each person is different and what works for one may not work as well for someone else.
