Post Operative Diet

68yr old male with hx of prostate inflammed S / P TKR and bowel ileus 12 days. Currently on the clear liquid diet. The family is said to "wait a few more days", but he went from "normal time" for the resolution of ileus. Any suggestions for what the rest of the family can do for him?

Chewing gum - there are studies that have shown an improvement, others not, but it can not hurt to try.
