Pancreatic Transplant

Pancreatic TransplantHow do you get on the list for a pancreas transplant?

My husband is 37 years old now and has had type 1 diabetes since he was 19 years. He can not control his glucose very well and his health is deteriorating. We have 3 children and I would love for him to try something that could prolong his life. I heard they had great success with these grafts. I need more info.

I was on the list "for over 5 years for both a kidney & A pancrease.
There are many things listed that must be done first. The first is consistent with his treatment plan. They look at it very seriously. the other is the weight you have to be under 165 for a thansplant. They will help you with these points.
My blood sugar levels up and down for reasons very much if this is not really a factor, but causeing damage that will, like heart damage, blindness, liver failure and On & On.
In California, I am registered with the SFSU you can contact them for more information if you are from California, if not google your state + pancrease registry it will show something about what you are looking for. Other wise, you can ask your doctors office for information and they will make an appointment to see if you quilify.
Good luck, and no matter what others say this site is a good starting point for information, you did good ... its a good question too!.

You do not want to ask strangers on the Internet something as important as that. Talk with your husband's doctor for heaven's sake.

A doctor can tell you what to do about it.
Good luck

your doctor or hospital must be one to put on a donor list. I would check with them first

Your husband needs to consult an endocrinologist to determine the best therapy to keep their glucose under control. He already knows the surly basic measures (diet, exercise, medication) if he has a good doctor. And if the doctor knows it is consistent with the treatment plan and still can not control her diabetes, the time has come for the dr. consider a consultation on the donor network. Sometimes just a speech at the R & D network of donors. Good luck.
