Obesity Interventions How our schools should fight against the epidemic of childhood obesity? Besides promoting nurtition and exercise, that schools have any further liability in obesity students? Schools should make nutrition and exercise classes mandatory for children who have a very unhealthy BMI? If that were the responsibility of the parents instead? Is this a form of child neglect that requires government intervention? it would really not that difficult. First, they need to restore PE five days a week. Most schools have reduced to 1 or 2 days. childhood obesity is not an epidemic. Report Abuse Schools can help promote good nutrition and exercise, as you say, but surely the Prime responsiblity lie with parents. This is not the responsibility of the school. Unfortunately, there are too many parents who may not interested. It's a different story, because childhood obesity is one of the children have many problems due to parental neglect. Parents and schools might consider working together to pull a win-win. They must serve a nutritious breakfast for all students and get rid of undesirables in vending machines in the first place. The schools should provide healthier food choices in cafeterias - not toddlers and canned spaghetti tater. There were some fresh food available in all schools I attended, and the few vegetables they served were dead, gray, mashed canned or frozen ones. But schools have been turned to food fresher, less snacks and soft drinks, studies have shown significant improvements in student attention in class as well as health and weight of the whole! Stop letting Coca-Cola and Taco Bell businesses in the building to sell their shit, you Channel 1 of the school, and stop letting the kids be captive audiences for advertisers. We must educate the parents first. I know there are lots of obese children and it's sad ... but look at the parents and grandparents. Children learn what they live. Schools can not do everything. With the end of the world we live in today Tippy, even a doctor must be careful how he approaches an obese patient. Do not want to hurt their feelings, trying to save their lives, now would we! The primary responsibility of parents.Schools can encourage healthy eating and schools can lookat exercise.Perhaps healthy snacks at recess. Our class has a healthy environment between fruitsnack lessons. They are in Grade 7. Posted on March 8, 2010.
