So of course, those who have suffered with the disease for many years know only too well how RLS can disrupt life. As it is known by more people may find the cause of their mysterious symptoms and start asking questions when they see their doctor. More importantly, they will come to see their symptoms as real and not imaginary, and they are not alone.

The simplest description of how RLS affects a person to say it is a disorder in which you are simply unable to relax. Each time a person sits or lays on the night his legs start to feel like pins and needles are stuck into their flesh creep, or experience a feeling or crawling and the need to constantly move legs, which makes it almost impossible to sleep. This fact alone may explain why one of the main effects of RLS is insomnia.

As research progressed, it was found that many people with RLS also have other family members suffering from this disorder and it is almost certainly a genetic component to the disease. This genetic link is important when it comes to diagnose in children because they often do not express their pain or discomfort in the same way as adults and the disorder is often misdiagnosed as arthritis, muscle cramps, stress and insomnia and attention is often focused on the child's irritability, inattention and restlessness that what is referred pain increasingly simple.

In addition, pregnant women sometimes find themselves suffering from symptoms of RLS during their pregnancy with more intense symptoms of the condition to come in the last quarter. But because of pregnancy, drugs are often not registered until the last two or three months of pregnancy, while the effects on the unborn baby will be minimal.

The first concern of any person suffering from RLS diagnosis must be because it is only after receiving a diagnosis that the treatment can become the starting and relief.

Treatments for RLS can vary significantly from person to person and the severity of symptoms experienced. Medications are often prescribed in severe cases with Mirapex and Requip are two of the most prescribed drugs well known. For those who do not want to use drugs there are alternative methods such as acupuncture and a variety of homeopathic remedies. In addition, changes in lifestyle such as use of hot and cold packs, exercise and relaxation can also be used to provide symptomatic relief.

Although it may seem expedient to find the best relief of your symptoms to your own you should consult your doctor first because RLS can sometimes appear as a secondary condition and the result of another disorder or as, for example when it occurs during pregnancy. Making use of your own plan can lead to other problems and therefore does not cause the relief you seek.

Because each individual person is unique so are the symptoms we experience and understanding of this is essential when dealing with a disorder such as RLS. Only with a good knowledge of the disorder that appropriate treatment can be given and leg pain that accompanies RLS become a thing of the past.
