Mental Health Charities

Mental Health CharitiesIs it illegal? Charities would be in mental health see this way?

It is illegal to say in an insulting kind of way that someone has a mental illness where the person has no mental health problem? Then to say the need to see a psychologist .. Can any type of action be taken?? For example, say that the person is bi - polar when they are not?

Making disparaging comments about someone could be characterized as defamation, especially if it leads to the target of comments being potential or actual discrimination. If, however, the name calling, you'd have a more difficult case to prove but it is still legal intimidation and your perfectly within your rights to request that your school / workplace to do something .

Can you give the context?

I'm not sure what the charities say mental health ... as they work to eradicate the stigma of mental health, and the question you just makes me think that you still see a stigma attached to mental health!

It is illegal to discriminate on the basis of disability pension, and that includes mental health problems. Illegal ... not as such, but it could be considered slander. It also depends where you are, the U.S. culture of litigation is much higher than here in the United Kingdom. I suppose you could sue for pain and suffering.

If the person has suggested that one sees a psychologist I wonder why they said that. It is completely different from saying that you think someone is nuts and to stay there, which is plain insulting, to say you think someone has a problem and think they should ask for help. In the latter case it may be that your behavior has caused concern, but you can not see yourself. Many mental illnesses are diagnosed when someone else has suggested that there be a problem, ask for help first hand is not always common, as people with mental health problems do not think they have something wrong with the,

To apply successfully you need to have a list of problems that the accuser told you, you'll need a psychiatrist to rebut those allegations based on clinical assessment.

If you had a bipolar condition as you would be covered by disability legislation; thereofore you may not be dismissed for mood swings.

You do not know what you ask. I can sit here and say you are crazy, and it's rude, but it is not grounds for a lawsuit, even if it is false and ill feelings. If you ask about medical malpractice misdiagnosis, which is different.

More like an opinion rather than a diagnosis. The last I knew we were still entitled to these.

It would be considered slander which is illegal.

I do not think it's illegal, but very tough. I have schizoaffective disorder and I find it insulting when people play and call people "crazy" or other things like that. But as I said it's like calling someone "retard" or "gay" but I do not think it's illegal. Only morally wrong. If it is a co-worker to complain to your boss, another student telling a teacher. Good luck.
