Lung Repair After Smoking How long would it take to repair my lungs smoking after five years? I started smoking when I was 15 and now I'm almost twenty years. I really want to quit smoking and I know how long will it take to quit to get my lungs back to normal will help in my fight against smoking, Thanks! :) My husband smoked for eight years, we are just talking last night and he told me he has not smoked in 2 years and last year he finally started noticing that his breathing 's improves. It depends on how much you smoked and for how long. At some point, your lungs will be 100%. I smoked for 10 years. I have not smoked in 6 years ... made more than 15 marathons and ran the Ironman Lake Placid in 2002. Current Xray shows no sign of smoke! Flag I'm not sure about this, but when I saw this question, I just had to respond. I think it is five years ... but I'm not sure, and I'm curious to know the answer myself, I smoked for six years and then stopped for three years and are now back smoked during the past year. Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but a good chance your lungs will never be 100% again, but if you stop now, you'll probably avoid most smoking-related diseases. Good luck quitting. They will not return completely to normal, but they become progressively more for several years. ever. They heal quickly, but it will never be completely healthy again. but it can be much better.
