MarketplaceKidney Tumor How long is too long to wait for the APPT Dr. kidney tumor? My husband had a CT scan for unrelated reasons, they ended up seeing a kidney tumor. The doc gave me a referral to a urologist, I called and they gave me appt for 3 weeks from now. Is this normal or should I call other and try for a sooner appt? When kidney cancer is diagnosed early, it is easier to treat and your chances of survival are good. Once the cancer has spread, however, treatment is more difficult and the prognosis is less positive. Kidney cancer seldom causes problems in its early stages. But as a tumor grows, you may notice blood in your urine or an unintentional weight loss or back pain that does not go far. If you notice any of these symptoms, treatment should begin immediately. If it were me, I want to do a biopsy as soon as possible. In this test, a sample of tissue is removed and examined microscopically. It is the only way to confirm the presence of cancer. Biopsies are routinely performed on tumors which grow in a ureter or pelvis of the kidney, central region of the kidneys, where urine collects. A solid kidney tumor, on the other hand, is often removed without a biopsy, because these tumors are almost always cancerous and because a needle biopsy can spread cancer cells outside the renal biopsy. Three weeks does not seem too bad, but it really depends on the stage of the tumor. I would call your doctor and discuss details for any other information and then go from this point of time. I wish you the best! I would try to get an appointment soon just to be sure. Never take your health for granted Posted on September 3, 2010.
