Hip Replacement Alternatives Are there alternatives to a hip replacement? Has anyone had a hip replacement, * recently? I am a canidate for? one and I'm scared as hell !!!.... I live alone and have no help from others ..... so I'm looking for some sort of alternative ..... HELP! Yes, there is an alternative to hip replacement. This is called hip resurfacing. The device has recently been approved for use in the United States by the FDA. It has been used overseas for years. The difference between the hip and hip resurfacing is that instead of cutting the head of the femur (the top of your thigh where the ball is on) and its replacement by a metal ball or on a ceramic rod that is inserted into the thigh bone, resurfacing involves shaping of the femoral head and cover it with metal lid of a round. Both procedures involve the insertion of a metal cup and the acetabular line (the pool). My father had hip - both hips two years apart. I have never personally that I am 17. My grandmother was the other two on the same hip! The first time was some 13 years ago and had to be in a wheelchair. This time was different. It was this year in April and it is now August and she returned to work in June She recovered very well. It has not been much help. She could not walk down stairs but it has recovered a lot faster than we expected. I said so! She has not taken his medication for pain after b / c it was not so bad. Good luck! My husband had both hips replaced at different times, you'll need help to recover, there is no way to do it yourself, maybe you have a friend or hospital you have in up with care after the CNA or something ...
