High Blood Pressure After Surgery

High Blood Pressure After SurgeryCan anesthesia cause of hypertension after surgery? Even if you never had before?

My grandmother had surgery on his back in February and then she developed high blood pressure, which remains. She did not before. Is this normal?

Yes, it can cause high blood pressure, after surgery or during surgery. Multiple hypotheses are there, they all believe in the sensitivity to anesthetics.
It is abnormal.

Unknown to many people is that anesthesia is the most dangerous part of any operation. This is the usual cause of most problems post-op. It could very well be related to the surgery itself, it absolutely must see a doctor. Surgery may have angered a pre-existing condition as well. but it absolutely must see a doctor!

In brief .... not. A single round of anesthesia will not cause hypertension (high blood pressure) to anyone.

What is much more likely is that your grandmother may have had a marked elevation of blood pressure was noted during or after surgery on routine monitoring. It may also be the likelihood that it had not assessed and blood pressure for doctor visits past (that is, if she sees a doctor regularly for examinations). Pain, stress, etc., associated with surgery can cause increased blood pressure too.

I have patients all the time who come after not been checked in a couple of years, and they finally crossed the line hypertension. "I've never had before," they exclaim. It is sometimes difficult to sell, but I try to explain that there are many risk factors, and medications to treat will help reduce the risk of diseases associated with HTN.

Hope this helps.

No, it's very unlikely.
Low blood pressure (hypotension) is most likely to occur with anesthesia.

Your mother may not have been monitoring his BP enough to know she has hypertension (high blood pressure) because it could not of been high when he was assessed in a medical office / hospital.

Take them for about one week 3 times a day and report to his local doctor.

Have a good one!
