What is the Gleason score of prostate cancer? A friend has a Gleason score 5 prostate cancer. What does this mean?
"The grade of cancer is an important factor in predicting long-term results of treatment, response to treatment, and survival. With prostate cancer the most commonly used classification system is the Gleason scale. In this classification system, the cells are examined by a pathologist under the microscope and a number on how cancer cells look and how they are assembled. Because prostate cancer can be composed of cancer cells of different grades, the pathologist assigns the numbers of the two current predominant qualities. The numbers range from 1 (low quality) to 5 (high grade). The Gleason score is the sum of these two numbers, for example, I am the man with a Gleason score of 2 and 3 in prostate cancer have a Gleason score of 5. cancers of low scores are those with a Gleason score of 2.3,
and 4, through-score cancers are those with a Gleason score of 5, 6 or 7, and cancers of the best scores are those with a Gleason score of 8, 9 and 10. The growth rate and aggressiveness of the cancer with increasing Gleason score.
additional commands to add to Tony (candy) it is a subjective test, the opinions that a quality person has can vary and so their "experts" they do not comment on biopsies of the best analysis ( Bostwick, Epstein and a few others are amongest them).
You can have Gleason scores of various courses in your own gland, it may be a Gleason 7 (3 +4) and another may show 9 (4 +5). I had three different scores found. Naturally, the highest rating may be the best indicator of variation of this aggressive cancer that you may have to handle.
Another point there are some types of prostate cancers, and some of them are much worse than the most current average than most men are diagnosed with. Among the worst is "small cell" and a few others, they do not respond well to hormone treatments.
Another point of the day: high-grade PIN can be found in the analysis of biopsy, although not regarded as definitive prostate cancer and not give a Gleason score, it can be a "pre- cursor to become prostate cancers with a Gleason score. So, if you are found with this, often with CaP monitor your tests.
Another point is the generalization of Gleason scores reflect higher quality generally less healing rates or control of the rate of progression of PCa over time. Thus, some surgeons will not remove a prostate patients in areas with high Gleason score, in which some others and even talk of healing the word in the discussion (Leary to such claims at any level diagnosis ).
