Failed Gastric Bypass

I have already had lap band surgery, but developing GERD and the band should be removed. Looking now at another weight loss surgery. I was just wondering if Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts will pay for gastric bypass.

Every insurance company is different, but I would think yes because they had already approved you for banding and it did not work. Member of my family had the tape removed and the gastric bypass done at the same time.

Your best bet would be to call the customer service card BCBS and ask them directly. Then you will know in advance exactly what they will or will not pay.

As for your insurance company to pay for gastric bypass I am almost certain that your company will not pay for it, but it also depends on what coverage you have. Depends on your employer offers coverage / bought from BC / BS. There are different levels of coverage and benefits they can buy. You should consult your registration package and will be covered and excluded procedures list. You can also call the Member Services department of BC / BS and they can explain if your coverage incldes gastric bypass.

This is the only way to know if someone can defination ~ say yes because it covered their policy, only to discover your policy does not work.
