Distended Gallbladder Does the pancreas have nothing to do with a distended gallbladder? My mother just had her gallbladder removed because it was distended and I want to know if the pancreas could have something to do with it? Yes, it is very possible that the pancreas may have something to do with his gall bladder. The two are connected where they meet in the small intestine and if you have a blocked duct, it may very well effect the other. The gall bladder is said to act as a vent "to the pancreas. If the bile duct is blocked by gallstones or sludge, it can keep the pancreas to drain properly causing pancreatitis. And vice / verce, sometimes if the pancreas does not work properly it can also effect the way the gallbladder drains. You'll know if your problem has been the gallbladder pancreas mothers bound if it does not get relief from symptoms of origin, of course, led her to have gallbladder checked to begin. It can also be caused by a condition called sphincter of Oddi Dysfuction. If this muscle does not open properly as it allows the gallbladder to empty into the intestines, it can cause bile to back up. Hopefully this is not the case in your mother and remove the gallbladder will solve its problems. I am not a medical professional, but they belong to two different systems, independent, except by serving the same person. Posted on February 18, 2010.
